BIO

Mixing elements of R&B and soul with their jazz roots, Kiana & the Sun Kings make music that is modern yet timeless, energetic yet contemplative. Pulling influence from artists like Herbie Hancock, Erykah Badu, and Robert Glasper, it’s their ultimate goal to make music that dabbles equally in complexity and simplicity, crafting sounds for the musician and casual listener alike. Since their formation in 2017, the band has gained traction from their beloved home base, Louisville KY, and spread that love to surrounding midwestern cities and beyond sharing bills with notable acts like Joslyn & the Sweet Compression, Bendigo Fletcher, Moon Taxi, and Nappy Roots. In addition to their time as performers and songwriters, Kiana & the Sun Kings are dedicated to accessibility in music and creating community, working with local non-profits like the Louisville Jazz Initiative and AMPED (Academy of Music Production, Education, and Development). With the release of their debut EP “Chrysalis,” this fiery septet continues to push the sonic envelope. Their sophomore EP entitled “Monarch” is set to release mid-2023.

The Sun Kings provide tight, impressive instrumentation that serve as the perfect landscape where Kiana Del’s voice can float and soar.
